Dental specialists complete two to six extra years of training after dental school and usually work on referral from a general dentist, although most accept patients who call directly. Orthodontists straighten teeth with braces and clear aligners; endodontists handle root canals; periodontists treat gum disease and place implants; oral and maxillofacial surgeons extract wisdom teeth, place implants and do jaw surgery, often under IV sedation; prosthodontists rebuild smiles with crowns, bridges and dentures; denture centers focus on full and partial dentures, relines and repairs. Sedation and hospital dentists serve anxious patients and people with special needs, while TMJ and sleep-apnea dentists make oral appliances for jaw pain and snoring.

Ortho wait times are horrible now. Not sure what happened in the past year. Over-scheduling I guess? It was so bad once we just left.

I’m extremely disappointed with this office. We were only 10 minutes late, after taking my son out of school early and spending time and gas to get there — and they turned us away without any attempt to work with us. It felt like our time and effort meant nothing. When I later expressed my concern, I was told we could have waited for another patient. Why wasn’t that mentioned while we were literally standing there? Instead, I had already driven home before learning that they actually did have options. On top of that, during our last visit my son walked out saying they were harsh and hurt his mouth. That’s not what any parent wants to hear from a place that specializes in children. What makes this even more frustrating is that my insurance has already rendered full payment for his treatment, so we are essentially stuck here and forced to deal with this office. Families deserve better communication, compassion, and respect for their time.
